I delved into a bit of animation to inject some personality into the app. Drawing inspiration from the Snapchat ghost and the DuoLingo owl, my goal was to create a character that would be the app’s focal point, transforming it from a mundane to-do app into an enhancer of cooking experiences.
Initially, I opted for a squirrel, given its foraging nature. However, after grappling with animation challenges and realising the mismatched colour palette, I scrapped the idea. Back to the drawing board, I stumbled upon the concept of bees. Bees, industrious in their pollen foraging and honey-making, align perfectly with the app’s storage concept.
As a novice in animation, the learning curve was steep, leading to moments of frustration. However, persistence paid off, and the animated bees now seamlessly integrate into the app. The playful touch they add aligns with my goal of creating a space where users can learn cooking skills, declutter cupboards, save money, all while contributing to the environment. The intention was to keep it light-hearted, and I believe I achieved that successfully.
