HTML and CSS workshop

This was our first coding workshop that we had done this year, and for me personally the first bit of coding I had ever done. In this workshop, we were just trying to get to grips with the new software ‘Visual Studio Code’ and started to play around with some coding phrases and techniques that would be helpful. in website design.

We have started working with html and css coding, which I had heard of before but wasn’t entirely sure what each of them meant. Html = HyperText Markup Language, which is “the basic scripting language used by web browsers to render pages on the World Wide Web.” Css = Cascading Style Sheets, which is “a computer language for laying out and structuring web pages (HTML or XML).”

In this workshop, we learnt the basic codes to start making a website browser, for example, adding; a title, a paragraph, an image, changing the colour of text and so on. Before going into this workshop, I thought I would really struggle with the coding because I remember we had to try and code in Year 8 and I didn’t get along with it at all and never did the project because I just didn’t understand. But I surprised myself because I actually understood the terms, and what to do and started to understand how the software works and how to edit the website browser, so I am looking forward to learning more and finding out new things I can do with this coding knowledge.
