This week was relatively calmer as I had caught up on my work the previous week, allowing me to revisit and refine my tasks. I encountered some motivation issues due to personal struggles, making it challenging to focus on my work. Nevertheless, I managed to stay on top of my assignments, which was possible because of the progress made last week, relieving the pressure.
My primary focus this week was redesigning elements of the Oliver Bonas website, such as a complex mega menu on the navigation bar. This task involved using Figma, a software that was new to me, and I had to teach myself how to work with it. Once I grasped the basics, I became more efficient with the software. Specifically, I chose to revamp the “All Homeware” button on the navigation bar, as it presented significant issues during my analysis.
I also addressed the heart icon’s color, making it slightly darker to enhance visibility against the bright white background. I created a prototype using Figma to demonstrate the change in context. This task was relatively straightforward for me due to my previous experience with Adobe XD.
Additionally, I provided design recommendations for the “Guest Checkout” section and an image issue involving the Green Mirror. Instead of redesigning them directly on Figma, I conducted research and found coherent examples from Urban Outfitters and Brandy Melville to illustrate how I believed the website should approach these aspects.
Towards the end of the week, I initiated the idea generation for Project 3, exploring potential themes and audience combinations for creating a unique experience. I used Miro to develop a spider diagram to organize my thoughts.
In summary, despite facing motivation challenges, I’m content with the progress made during this week. The experience with Figma was initially confusing, as I was more accustomed to Adobe XD. However, the process of redesigning allowed me to gain a better understanding of the software. Learning how to create prototypes was enjoyable, and I anticipate it will help me complete future tasks more efficiently.
