After having a chat with Dave on Monday morning I decided to change my topic to sustainable and eco friendly cafes. This was because I came to the realisation that creating an app for sustainable accommodation wouldn’t be an experience that users would use as often.

I unfortunately saw this as a major setback and meant I’d have to do much more work over Christmas to ensure that I wouldn’t be so behind. However by changing my subject matter to eco friendly and sustainable cafe’s it was still relating to responsible consumption and production and that not all of my research is irrelevant. I knew that it would work better as an app because it is more of a recurring experience and I would’ve found it harder to find eco friendly hotels and resorts to put on the app as well as specific information that I could use as features.

Throughout the week, I quickly began researching some articles to do with cafe’s, and issues around this topic. I look at problems spaces within the industry and how I could use them as an opportunity to make my app. I also quickly rewrote my subject matter interview questions as I saw an independent cafe shop in Norwich that source their coffee beans directly from a green trader. I was slightly disappointed when I went it for a quick chat they were too busy leading up to Christmas. I emailed in my questions and to bread source in Norwich which I am hoping for a reply from.

Over Christmas, I changed my ethnographic user interview questions and conducted 4 new interviews as well as interviewing Nikki who is a cofounder of CIVICSQUARE, being my subject matter expert interview for responsible consumption and production.

These interviews went really well as I was able to gain a really good insight into people opinions and thoughts on eco friendly and sustainable cafes, as well as gaining an insight into an industry that it actively trying to make a change with their consumption and production.
