This week I decided to refine the questions I would need in order to conduct my usability tests. However before conducting these user interviews, I thought it would be best to create some of my personas. I looked into the types of personas and was confused by what the different types meant. After searching up the difference between provisional persons and personal personas, it became more clear how to approach the task.
After the group tutorial on Thursday, Rob pointed out that my personas were quite similar and would be better if I had some that had different goals. Eg: people that weren’t as interested in the sustainable aspect of accommodation and just wanted an easier way to book and look for hotels, being overwhelmed by the options on the web. As a result, next week I am going to finalise them and make a few changes to them which will make each persona slightly different.
On Thursday I also decided to conduct 3/5 of my user interviews for project 4. I personally believe that in comparison to the first set of usability tests that I did for project 2 – Design and Iterate I was much more confident, knew what to say, how to introduce the topic and had a much better flow. The interviews allowed me to further refine my problem area, and identify how I could solve the issue.
Throughout the week, did some further research into sustainable living and tourism and more refined research to do with peoples opinions on how important they deem sustainable travel to be.
On Tuesday we had a lecture given by Jason Brown who is a product designer working for the national grid. I was able to use him as my subject matter expect interview, which I found to be very interesting.
