It was highlighted during my last week that I needed to refine my ideas in order to make proper progress with my project, so this is what I did to develop my design for good project.

I have decided to take forward a completely different approach to my app design, and want to investigate how I can encourage more sustainable shopping (this was also mentioned during my interviews). Overall, it was found that people are not sure on how they are actually contributing to global warming and so, if I can make a product that encourages better behaviour without the entire focus being on saving the planet – I feel this would be the best solution.

In order to help me gather my thoughts, I created a user flow that shows a user creating a shopping list using my app. I used this as a tool to help me create wireframes for my newly developing interface because at this point I wasn’t too sure of the direction of my application. Using the user flow also let me explore the pages that should be included in my app, which I hadn’t necessarily considered before, such as a possible ‘favourites’ section.

After talking with Dave with how I wanted to attract the users into my design, he recommended the book ‘Hooked’ by Nir Eyal. I read the first chapter of it and it helped me to understand different methods which I can use in order to ‘hook’ the user into my interface and I found Eyal’s ‘hook model’ exceptionally interesting to read upon. Dave said how there needs to be an incentive to make change, and that the gradients that I had selected were already a step towards that… but that I should also consider a way of congratulating the user in order for them to want to purchase sustainable groceries again.

The briefing for our essay was also this week. I believe that I am going to look into mental health and well-ness interfaces, as this is something that I am personally very interested in and thus I will enjoy researching and writing about.
