Sian Wong – Tommy Design

Graduating NUA in 2021 from Graphic Communication, Sian Wong delivered a talk on her work over the past several years at Creative Production Agency Tommy. Sian began her career as a Junior Designer, progressing to an Associate Art Director, and now works as a Mid-weight Creative.

Although Tommy works primarily in the advertising sector, Sian’s talk was inspiring nonetheless – it was great to hear from a recent NUA graduate and see the level of work they have produced in the few years immediately following university.

Tommy works across four main areas: Augmented Reality (AR), Digital Out Of Home (DOOH), Social Content, and Experiential (In-person & Online Experiences). Sian talked about several projects she has worked on with Tommy, for clients including Adobe, Netflix, Rimmel & Ed Sheeran. They also work with – and source – many of these clients through partnerships with social media platforms Snapchat and TikTok.

It was also interesting to hear Sian talk about the differences in roles at an agency such as Tommy – Strategy (Research), Creative, and Studio. She mainly spoke about the differences between Creative and Studio – as a UX Student, it was interesting to hear about this and to consider where UX could fit into an agency such as Tommy – potentially within the Studio team.

Below are some further projects Sian presented to us.

Overall, it was really interesting to hear from Sian and her journey from Graphic Communication at NUA several years ago to the position she is now in. It was definitely an inspiring and interesting talk, even if not the most applicable to my course.
