On 13th December, Katherine West & Lily West from Magpie studio visited NUA to speak about their work at Magpie and their journeys from graduating university to working in a studio like Magpie. Based in Shoreditch, they have done work for Bandico Coffee Co., Plenish, and This Isn’t. Much of their talk focused on their journeys though, and was full of helpful advice to us as students.
Below are some helpul pieces of advice they quoted during the talk.
Lily and Katherine gave a lot of advice about portfolios – this was a great insight especially given Lily went straight into an internship immediately after graduating NUA.
They highlighted the need for clear storytelling and high resolution visuals in our portfolios, and suggested it include 3-4 of our best projects.
