Harry Brignull has a book called Deceptive Patterns which is all about how research shows that designers know where users will expect aspects to go such as logo and search bars.
During this talk Brignull discusses updates and sometimes the harm that comes with them such as the Microsoft update. Microsoft automatically updated without permissions which made users very vocal about the issues.
Other issues with only design aspects is companies such as Figma sneakily charging customers without making them aware. When you share a file and select ‘can edit’ this adds a monthly charge to who is paying for the software. This hidden feature costs users while its not obvious that it is happening.

Harry Brignull discusses UX design on webs and app and how design can change how users react and what they select. The example given was about the cooking and accepting/rejecting, and the placement has a massive impact on what the users select.
