Competitor Research

After completing our heuristics, we moved on to competitor research. This is probably my weakest skill at this moment in the project. For previous projects, I feel my competitor research has always been lacking. I expressed this to my team, and after a small group meeting, we decided that I would focus on looking at event pages that I liked and components that I could use from these sites. Below is my competitor research for event pages.

Key Takeaways

The biggest takeaways were from Planque, a restaurant that also hosts wine tastings and events, which they promote with posters on their site. I really liked their way of portraying these events. One of the main problems on the Virgin Wines site was that the wine tasting was actually a wine con. The way they presented it made it sound like a small, regular tasting when it was actually a huge event. My thinking at this step was that making posters for the events and having them displayed would better convey the idea that the wine tasting was a big event rather than a small wine tasting.

This led to designs, but they will be covered in the design segment coming up.
