To kick off the week, I had my mid-unit review. After Sync the City I was feeling much more enthusiastic about my work and it was encouraging to hear from Dave that I am on track – as I find it easy to demotivate myself through thinking I’ve not done enough.

The focus of this week was to continue with my Design for Good project. I have decided to put the Design for Web brief to the side, as I feel I need time away from the project in order for it to progress in the most successful way.

For my project, I further developed my personas to give them slightly more direction, as this was a suggestion I received when I asked for criticism. Moreover, I finally completed the competitor research. This is a really useful bit of data, as it has shown me what apps are already available on the market and what I need to create within my app to make it unique, it was also interesting to see the large range in UI on the apps and whether or not it worked for the app – and how it made me feel as a user.

When talking to Amy, she said how I should develop my problem statement. Using the information I had gathered from my interviews I started to look into different perspectives that I could take forward within my app – I explored ideas such as creating an educational app or a habit tracking app.

Something else that needs to be created for hand-in is our portfolio website, which we had a briefing in on. We were told different potential builders we can use and what the pros and cons of them are, my favourite so far is Cargo as I feel it looks like the most arty/creative site, and I want to make sure my portfolio site is unique to me. I am also really keen to get better at coding, and using Cargo will help me achieve this goal. With Cargo, I can also use a code from NUA so I can publish my site for free, for a year – so this is definitely something to consider.
