Ah yes, the big work work work up until the week of submission. I noticed a few things with my working:
- I really did not want to do the after effects video. That surprised me, because I came in excited to learn after effects. But what it really was: my assumption that motion design and ae are all the rage. It might be true for the trends, but I have never been a video/streaming/screen person. So in my head, it makes sense why I didn’t like it that much. Maybe I’ll find the glory of it in another project, but for now, not my favourite.
- User interviews got significantly easier over time. Especially with friends and family, where it can be tricky to keep a “job” personality on as they are cracking jokes. I’ve come to love this aspect of UX. And unlike above, that doesn’t surprise me at all. I’ve always been fascinated in how people do what they do, so of course I’m going to want to talk to them about it!
- It’s hard to work with cold hands and feet.
- I would like to revisit and re-examine a lot of the user journey maps. All of the different names they have get me all jumbled up, so it would be nice to have a set of flashcards that I could practice to understand which is which and what purpose it serves.
- I would like more hands on practice! It felt a lot of studio time recently has been individual crit, which is incredibly helpful, but I hope we can reintroduce play into work and get the creative juices flowing. Have you seen The Art of Design?
- Figma is still tricky for me, and something as an independent study is I’m going to watch a youtube video a day trying to learn a new skill. Whether it be advanced or simply how to organize a workspace, having those foundational skills set in stone will help me with the upcoming projects. My workspace (online) has been a mess and that’s been messing with my head, but I’m not sure how to help it! I would honestly really appreciate a digital guide or few lessons over just different ways to stay tidy in our little computers and be kind to our minds. I know everyone does it differently, but isn’t that the same for…most things?
You’ll see I haven’t really attached miro boards in my blog, and there’s a reason for that. In figma, I am getting really caught up in minute details that I will probably change later anyway. The same is happening with miro. I am finding it much more useful to grab my notebook and jot down ideas, wireframes, etc. there. Hence, all of the notebook scans.
As with figma, as with miro, constantly learning, constantly wondering. I am still so pleased to be on this course. But my god do we have a heavy workload.
Got an invite to speak at a start up event because of Sync the City. Super cool.
