Pitching to Virgin Wines

After ultimately finalising our designs in the previous week, this week we prepared our presentation to present at the Virgin Wines offices.

Getting Prepared

A segment of our shared presentation

We created a new set of design rules to follow, allowing us to create a consistent presentation as we individually worked on our own sections.

I created the slides in-line for where my focus in the project sat: Wine-Tastings Desktop and Wine-Tastings Mobile.

Each slide transitioned to the next using Smart-Animate, creating a window of scrolling showcasing how the website would display in a browser environment. I showcased key bullets on the screen, while discussing the design verbally in more detail.

By designing in Figma, we were able to retain levels of interactivity as would be seen in the real website and demo them live for our client. This is useful in allowing us to retain elements such as interactive overlays.

Throughout this process we tested our design on large displays to ensure elements were appropriately sized.

Presentation Day

We decided the most suitable way of presenting was using iPads. There were several benefits to this, such as being able to edit our script when necessary without needing to print new copies and also a more professional look when presenting, without having to ruffle with paper notes. We utilised the Media Resource Centre for this.

This service proved to be useful, allowing us to book the iPads and collect them at the same time.

After running through our presentation, we made our way to Virgin Wine’s offices in St James Mill.

While I was nervous, the presentation went well. I feel we conveyed our intended design decisions and it was well received by our client. Having feedback from Jay Wright and the team, particularly positive feedback was a really valuable experience to me and I feel it’s boosted my confidence as a designer.

I also feel like as someone who’s not naturally a presenter, putting myself in that environment will make presenting to clients far less daunting in the future. I feel this presentation has really helped me.

I really enjoyed the wine tasting and the wine provided by Virgin Wines. They were a lovely team and it was a great end to this collaborative project.
