Making Progress

User Tests

As part of this week’s progress, as well as developing my Miro board, I ran user tests on the TK Maxx website.

By running these user tests, I have been able to develop a more empathetic understanding over the experience of different types of users in the TK Maxx website. This was also a good opportunity to explore some different solutions from other retail sites such as Marks and Spencer, ASOS and Hollister. These sites sometimes utilised more creative and useable solutions to various problems I found on the TK Maxx site, such as finding shoe sizes and product search.

Figma

This week was the start of me getting used to Figma. In our first Figma workshop, I created an animated lock that moves with a slider.

Following this, I experimented by creating a new navigation bar in Figma for the TK Maxx website. With this, I attempted to increase the discovery of some of the top navigation, for example the store locator and sign in button.

This needs development work, but it’s a start.

HTML

In our HTML workshop, we created a basic website using tags and elements with CSS.

This was an interesting insight into learning how CSS affects a webpage.

Duocon

On a different note, I virtually attended Deacon, the conference for Duolingo, the language learning app

This was an interesting insight into how User Experience Designers, Illustrators and Animators can join forces to create a memorable and functional experience. The conference inspired me to be more open about my design and I would like to incorporate different aspects outside my comfort zone into my work in the future, such as more illustrative aspects.
