Hitting The Ground Running

Getting Started

The first week of Bsc User Experience Design has been a challenge. However, I feel this will be beneficial to me as I am confident I can push myself to meet the needs of the course. I am also glad I am being challenged as I’m reminded I’m at the right place, a university where I will be able to grow in my field and develop a strong skillset.

Miro has been useful within this first week as I have developed my Evaluate and Iterate project in Bsc2a.

As part of my evaluation for the United Kingdom version of the TK Maxx retail site, I used Miro to create a user flow, sitemap and annotated analysiees of the website. I explored in terms of Don Norman’s 7 Principles of Design what is successful and unsuccessful about the experience and design of the site.

Research in Miro

Within this past week, I have been beginning to immerse myself into the science of User Experience Design (which is especially useful after my first year of Graphics). In particular, Don Norman’s ‘The Psychology of Everyday Things’ has been helpful. It has helped me understand concepts such as the separation of conscious and unconscious thought processes and the ‘stages of action’ users follow when they complete tasks. These will be helpful as I continue to evaluate the TK Maxx retail site, redesign and iterate on certain aspects and then create my own website as part of project 3 in the following weeks.
