During this informative and entertaining lecture from Motion Senior Designer Simone Costa and Design Director Josh Lassen, they explored 3 of their major recent projects and the processes behind them. Following this lecture I took inspiration from their creative and empathetic design and considered how they’ve used UI/UX in interesting and new ways going beyond the styles and techniques we learn in Bsc2.
Nomad, being a team of 27+ designers have grown in recent years, now working with large scale brands and companies.

Hayu: Amplify the Everyday
Nomad were tasked with redesigning the Hayu brand to bring a fresh, exciting and fun meaning to the streaming service matching the fun reality tv content of the streaming platform.
From this project, the stand out feature of the rebrand was the use of the Hayu ‘H’ to hold content and bring content forward, as to not make the Hayu brand a sticker over its contents but a living frame to bring contents forward while retaining the visual identity of the brand.

The way they applied this ‘H’ in a creative way stood out to me and reminded me to remember the ‘Smile in the mind’ style of thinking within my UX Design.
Further, a topic from the Hayu project that stood out to me was during the transition phases of implementing the Hayu rebrand, Nomad generated a series of After Effects templates usable by in-house Hayu. I appreciated the efforts of Nomad to include creative coding into the rebrand and use creative coding in this way.
Pets at home
As a rebrand I have personally followed, it was intriguing to hear about it from the people that played a key role in designing it.

Nomad’s work focused on creating a consistent brand identity, from refreshing the typography to tone of voice and UI/UX Design.
From a UX perspective, Costa talked about creating natural Email communication with customers by working with an illustrator called Hannah Warren. Collaboration between UX and illustration is something I am very much looking to include in my future work, so seeing an execution of this was interesting.

The illustrations create a human, friendly user interaction matching with the brand goals set by Nomad.
Nomad is a cool studio to me and one I’ve had my eye on for a while. I enjoyed hearing from them and will keep them in mind for the future.
