Project 4: Introduction & Research

Having mostly finished Project 3, this week I came back to Project 4. I started it in Week 5 with the group workshop task, and intended to revisit it sooner but I chose to allocate most of my time to Project 3 instead.

I started my research by looking at the UN Sustainable Development goals, and picking three of them to research further. I hoped this would then inspire more specific and narrowed down ideas later on. I looked into Industry, Innovation & Infrastructure, Responsible Consumption & Production, and Climate Action as potential problem spaces I could base an idea around.

I chose to then narrow my research down into two more specific domains, Public Transport (linking to Sustainable Infrastructure and Sustainable Cities) and Consumption & Waste (linking to Responsible Consumption).

As my research progressed it became clearer that the area of Public Transport was much more interesting me, so I focused the remainder of my research on that domain and intend to take that forward as the basis of my problem statement and the rest of the project.

Week Summary

I only made minimal progress on Project 4 this week as outlined above – but it was a great start and I finished the week feeling like I have a clear direction for the project. On Wednesday this week, we were briefed on Project 5 and 7, providing helpful context to where I will take my ideas next.

On Thursday, Friday and Saturday this week I participated in Sync the City 2023. This consumed the rest of my time this week, but it was a great experience which I will cover in a separate blog post.

Next Week

I have set myself a goal of completing Project 4 within two weeks. I want to complete most of it next week, in Week 9 (interchange week), allowing myself Week 10 to finish any user interviews and expert interviews which may take a while to complete or arrange.
