Although there was no studio teaching this week due to it being Interchange, I made a good amount of Progress with project 4. I completed my domain research into problem spaces, and wrote a problem statement which helped me focus the next stages of the project.

As a result of my domain research, I have chosen to focus on the topic of public transport in relation to sustainability. My problem statement is below:
Currently, a large proportion of the population are reluctant to use public transport due to issues such as crowding, busyness and availability of live information. High cost & unaffordability are also significant demotivators. The result of this reluctance is a high reliance on car travel, which is linked to a number of societal costs such as carbon emissions, air pollution and space consumption. These factors inhibit the development and progression of more sustainable cities.
With a clear focus, I moved onto statistical research and looked at a number of sources. Having chosen a specific domain to look at, I found this quite interesting to explore and to see how actual data and statistics compared to my assumptions and personal opinions.

Next, I chose to complete the Competitor Review as I feel it will help inform my interviews. I have started this, and so far have chosen the TfL Go app, Google Maps’ Crowding Levels Feature and Trainline’s SplitSave and Price Prediction features.

Next week, I am aiming to finish or come close to finishing project 4. After the competitor review, I will conduct, analyse & evaluate five user interviews, and also aim to carry out a subject matter expert interview. I have emailed three questions to the Shadow Secretary of State for Transport Louise Haigh in preparation, and I am also looking into other experts in the field at transport companies and within local government who I could interview.
After completing user interviews I will start to consider personas, alongside waiting for responses from any of the subject matter experts who I will contact. After all of these other steps, I will complete the value proposition canvas.
Rough time structure to finish Project 4 by end of week 10:
- Monday: Finish competitor review, begin writing user interview questions & contact additional experts
- Tuesday: Finish interview questions, conduct as many user interviews as possible & contact additional experts
- Wednesday: Finish user interviews and analyse & evaluate recordings alongside hopefully some expert responses
- Thursday: Finish interview evaluations, follow up on expert interviews & start personas
- Friday: Finish gathering expert interview content, analyse & start personas
- Saturday: Personas
- Sunday: Personas & VPC
