For my industry report proposal I chose to focus and investigate subject of dark patterns used in aviation industries. I am particularly interested in psychology of Dark patterns in digital interfaces and psychology are closely related because they both involve understanding human behavior and decision-making processes. Dark patterns exploit psychological principles to manipulate users into taking actions that benefit the company, often at the expense of the user’s best interests. By leveraging cognitive biases, heuristics, and emotional triggers, dark patterns influence users to make choices they may not have made if presented with transparent and fair design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The purpose of this report is to investigate the prevalence and implications of deceptive patterns, commonly known as “dark patterns,” in digital interfaces. Inspired by Harry Brignull’s identification of these manipulative design strategies, the report aims to shed light on how dark patterns exploit human decision-making processes, leading to financial losses, privacy violations, and loss of legal control for users. By focusing on e-commerce, public transport, and aviation industries, the report seeks to highlight the ethical concerns surrounding dark patterns and their impact on consumer rights. Through case studies and legal analysis, it explores the challenges faced by users and proposes strategies for businesses to align their practices with user needs while safeguarding against deceptive patterns. Additionally, it examines emerging trends in UX design and the evolving regulatory landscape, emphasizing the importance of promoting user autonomy and fair practices.
