week of submission

Well, this last blog post for the semester is coming to you from a bit of a headache. Admittedly, I can overwork myself (pairs well with the perfectionism) and as of a few days ago I got hammered with a sickness. I know it was my body’s way of telling me that I’m erring on the side of overwork. But, not the best thing to happen during hand in week! I have been incredibly stressed trying to get everything put together in an orderly fashion. Being transparent (which I try to do anyway) this is the most overwhelmed I have felt in a long time.

I thought I had a good handle on working every day, about eight hours, but ultimately it was hard for me to see what actuall progress I was making. I hyperfocused on somethings over others, and I got hard on myself for aspects I didn’t feel I was excelling at (graphic design, anyone?) But this has taught me a lot about myself. I’m happy to have the sickness to be alone and the weeks after submission: I know they are for grading purposes but we need to digest everything we’ve just done, too!

Expect a little round up of what I’ve learned at the beginning of the next chapter, for it needs to process a bit first. But slowly I’m gaining confidence in my methods, in my decisions and in my ideas. I am thrilled to be working with research informing design (and to be learning how to be a better researcher, as well).

I’m watching my land lady play with her dog out in the garden; he doesn’t want to let go of the toy, so she is dragging him along. That’s how I have definitely felt this semester. Not wanting to let go of previous ideas or ways that I have gone about working in the past. But if I don’t let go, there can be no play.
