He shared insights on navigating interviews, emphasising the importance of meticulous preparation to ensure readiness at all times. However, I found this session a bit challenging to follow as it wasn&#8217;t entirely clear whether the focus was on preparing for a personal job interview or on conducting interviews for potential candidates. The ambiguity left me feeling somewhat confused throughout the discussion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His main points that I have taken away from his talk was;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Always be prepared \n<ul>\n<li>Have a script<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have extra questions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Give yourself 3 key points that you want to focus on<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Observation \n<ul>\n<li>Have someone listening in taking notes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The kit\n<ul>\n<li>Maintain eye contact <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your manner\n<ul>\n<li>Put people at ease, making yourself seem trustworthy<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Appear neutral to the key points of the interview<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your Goal\n<ul>\n<li>Have a goal set out of what you want to achieve <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>4 a day max\n<ul>\n<li>Each interview takes around an hour &#8211; they&#8217;re quite tiring, so don&#8217;t do too many in one day<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>After the interviews\n<ul>\n<li>Write up what happened<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Assess, <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Talk to the observer, <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Look at the transcript, <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Think about the backup <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>He then, rather helpfully for me as I love lists, gave us a list on his 10 top tips:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Be nice (but not a pushover) &#8211; who you know is really important<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Work with talented people &#8211; people smarter\/better than you <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ask &#8211; sit in on a client presentation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Challenge people &#8211; respectfully &#8211; be open to people also challenging you<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You&#8217;re an expert<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You have advantages &#8211; young, new, up for it, grown up with apps &#8211; use it!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go for it! &#8211; it&#8217;s a marathon, not a sprint<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Be reliable &#8211; what does your manager value?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You will mess up &#8211; it doesn&#8217;t matter<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ask why &#8211; don&#8217;t just be receptive, be proactive<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>In summary, despite the lack of clarity on the specific area of focus, I gleaned valuable insights from this lecture.
