In this stage of the project, after thoughtful consideration, I decided to interview Dr Jeremy Lanfear, who also happens to be my dad. I chose him because he pursued a career in biology, with a particular focus on the environmental aspects of his work. Additionally, he holds a degree in marine biology and completed a Ph.D. in biology. Given his expertise, I believed he would be a well-suited and insightful candidate for this interview process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I posed a series of inquiries concerning global hunger and food waste, aiming to deepen my comprehension of the complexities associated with this challenge. Among the questions I explored were: How has the problem of food waste transformed over the years? In what ways do political, economic, and social factors play a role in contributing to food insecurity, and what modifications could be implemented to address these issues? Are there particular regions or demographic groups that exhibit higher vulnerability to hunger? Additionally, could you offer an overview of the present status of global food waste and its implications for the environment?<\/p>\n\n\n

His responses were truly captivating throughout the conversation. Despite my initial concerns about delving deep into the subject due to the familial connection, my dad provided extensive insights, revealing aspects I hadn’t considered. Notably, he expressed the view that the primary cause of global hunger lies in the uneven distribution of food worldwide. He highlighted a contrast between families in the west, who tend to overbuy and overconsume, and those in the east, facing greater struggles with famine. According to him, rectifying this distribution imbalance could alleviate world hunger. This perspective was eye-opening, offering a fresh angle I hadn’t previously contemplated. Moreover, his insights into the historical evolution of food waste and proposed measures to mitigate it were intriguing. However, he expressed a belief that many individuals are simply unwilling to make the necessary efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In summary, I found the interview experience immensely enriching as it provided a valuable opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the gravity of global issues. Living in this country and within my family, I often feel somewhat insulated from the challenges faced by the wider world, as they don’t directly impact my daily life.
