We would need supporting documents on Miro board with screenshots, mind maps, user flow diagrams and user journey maps.

We also got taught about outcome trees – outcome trees include the outcome, solution idea and the experiment.

Idea research

First we have to research different things from the UN 11 sustainable goals. I first looked at quality education, life below water, and no poverty. After researching into these I decided to focus on quality education. I then did research into this topic and started to think about ideas for what kind of app I could create.

First I thought about designing an app which allows people to share and donate old school equipment like text books. However I changed from this idea because after more research I thought there wouldn’t be much market for it and it would be difficult to turn into an app.

Another thought I had in relation to quality education was to create an app for education. I have tutored with a neurodiverse company to help children who might not be getting taught in the correct way in there schools.

User interviews

Researching further into this by doing some user interviews I found that lots of people believed that tuition was an important part of education and even if they hadn’t had it they believed it would’ve helped their education if they had.

Statistical research

When looking at statistics I found that a lot of people in the UK have not paid for tutors but would consider it. This then became a problem of finding out why they only think about doing it but don’t actually pay for it. When doing some research into this I found that parents can be quite reluctant if the tutor doesn’t have a good academic degree or they are worried a random student tutoring their child would not be enough to help them.

Expert interview

I then continued to do an expert user interview. The expert I interviewed was Caitlin Glover who owns a specialised neurodivergent tuition company, where older students teach younger students who have a neurodiversity like ADHD or dyslexia. These students will be matched with tutors who either share there neurodiverse condition or understand how to teach in a way that suits it. Caitlin was a very useful interview because she spoke a lot on what she believes could be improved about education around the world. This was really useful because I could then think more deeply about what I can design and hoe it could be more useful to students.

After this interview I thought about how I could create an app which would have trustworthy tutors that parents and children trust. For this I thought about only having tutors with education, and evidence of this education to help persuade parents that they would be worth there money. Also designing a neurodiverse app with neurodivergent tutors so that they understand how to tutor the children.

Website comparison

I thought about what the websites believed, what their outcomes were, methods for getting people involved, their good interactions and what they are missing.

I found that a common feature is that they were not getting people actively involved so for my app I would get people more involved by having them sponsor or donate and being actively able to see the difference they are making.

Some good interactions that a lot of them had is they showed a lot of information on the differences they make to children in education so I would like to continue this and show users how they are helping.

Personas

I have three personas for my website.

The parent of a child who wants to be tutored

The tutor themselves who want to teach

The child who wants to be tutored

First I looked at the parent who’s troubles were with not knowing who to trust when it comes to the tutoring and they know that they won’t be as much help to their child as a tutor.

The tutor wants to teach more and help as many students as he can on a more one to one basis but doesn’t have the time in a normal school day to do this. He has thought about picking up extra tuition on the side to better help his experience and also the students around him.

The student is struggling in school and isn’t being taught in a way that suits them but doesn’t know what way could help them. They have also recently been diagnosed with different neurodiverse conditions and doesn’t know how to learn in a way that works for them. So is trying to find specific neurodiverse help.

Value proposition

On this value proposition canvas it shows what creators can gain from the app, what products and services are delivered and some pain relievers that the app gives. It also shows what the users gain, what some of their pains might be that can be solved and what the customers jobs are when using the app.

Design for good.
